The exhibition will consider themes including social justice, lived experience, memory, contradiction, and the ways art can document and reimagine society.
The open call welcomes different artistic mediums and approaches. Artists may submit existing work or propose new work responding to the exhibition’s broader themes.
Who can apply:
- Emerging and established artists
- Visual artists, photographers, illustrators, sculptors, installation artists, printmakers, textile and mixed-media artists
- Poets, writers, and performance artists
- Artists based in Kenya or with a strong connection to the Kenyan creative landscape
What to submit:
- Artist name and contact information
- Short artist biography
- Images or documentation of 1–3 artworks
- Artwork title, dimensions in cm, medium, and year
- Short description of each submitted work
- Social media link, if available
- Submitted artworks must not exceed KES 400,000 in value
Selection:
Applications will be reviewed by the SOS Art Kenya curatorial team based on relevance to the exhibition, strength of the artistic idea, quality and originality, diversity of perspectives, and contribution to conversations around contemporary Kenya.

The fair takes place at Shepstone Gardens in Johannesburg and provides exhibitors with indoor and outdoor spaces for presenting contemporary art.
Applicants are encouraged to propose focused presentations that support meaningful connections between artists and works.

- Artist studios and artist-led initiatives
- Print studios and workshops
- Collectives
- Independent curatorial and exhibition platforms
- Arts organisations and foundations
- Selected cultural and special projects
Selection considerations:
- Strength and quality of the proposed artists and works
- A focused and coherent presentation
- Clear relationships between the artists and works selected
- New artists and new work
- Distinctive presentations
- Contribution to the overall range of practices, regions, media, and perspectives at the fair
- Suitability of the proposal for the available indoor and outdoor spaces
The selection committee will particularly consider presentations featuring new artists and works that have appeared at no more than one other major South African art fair.
